Char Bhanjyang Telemedicine Clinic Report March 2022

by Hon Lt Chandra Gurung, Char Bhanjyang Tamu Samaj International Coordination Committee

A team from Char Bhanjyang Tamu Samaj UK (CBTSUK) which consisted of Hon Lt Chandra Gurung, Chairman, Char Bhanjyang Tamu Samaj International Coordination Committee (CBTS ICC), Mr Madan Gurung Chairman (CBTSUK), Mrs Bimla Gurung Chairwomen Ama Group (CBTSUK,) Lt Narayan Psd Gurung Founder Chairman (CBTSUK) plus some other members, visited Char Bhanjyang Centre for Health (Swinfen House) and other areas of the villages from 1st-6th March 2022.

The aim of the visit was to obtain an update on the situation of the clinic and launch an Agrotourism project led by Chairman CBTS UK, Mr Madan Kumar Gurung. During the visit, the team visited all villages, schools, and health posts that the association supports during Covid-19 and natural disaster crises. The team also met with the heads of local Governments and their staff, for more support and cooperation to the clinic and the Agrotourism project.

Char Bhanjyang Telemedicine Clinic is running very well. It is getting more popularity in this region and often gets coverage on national media. HA Prarthana is doing an excellent job. The clinic now has an X-ray room which was financed by Capt Deo. Prarthana is qualified to run the X-ray machine and also advises patients on health education matters. Local Government is more supportive of the clinic. CMA nurse Himali Kuwar who was once employed by this clinic, has been posted back to the clinic with financial support from the Nepal Government. We have been requesting this for some time and feel this is a really positive achievement. We are again requesting that the Government make this post permanent.  As of 2nd March, the total number of patients that have been treated was 23251. This is with a total staff of five.

There are many problems that need to be overcome in this very remote situation; patients travel long distances to get treatment here and also find it difficult to obtain medicine prescribed for them.  A home stay programme has been introduced in the village which enables patients to stay and pay for food and lodging.
